Choose a server location: Germany, Finland, Singapore, USA

Your cloud server runs in a data centre in one country. You choose that country when you order. The rule is simple: put the server near the people who use it. This guide helps you decide.
Why location matters
Data travels through cables. The longer the distance, the more time a request needs to go to the server and back. This waiting time is called latency. For a website or an app, low latency feels faster. For a backup server, it hardly matters.

We offer cloud servers in four places:

Which one for you
Most of your users are in India
Choose Singapore. It is the location nearest to India of the four, so your visitors reach the server with the lowest latency. This suits Indian online shops, business applications, APIs for mobile apps, and anything where people wait for a page to load.
Your users are in Europe, or you serve the whole world
Choose Germany or Finland. Both are in Europe and well connected to the rest of the world. Germany is central for most of Europe. Finland is in the north and also reaches Europe well. If your customers are in India and Europe both, think about which group matters more for your business.
Your users are in North America
Choose USA. This is the best choice when your customers, partners or other services you connect to are in the USA.
Other things to think about
- Where the data must stay. Some customers or contracts need data to be kept in a certain country. Check this before you order. Ask your adviser if you are unsure.
- Where your other systems run. If your server talks all day to a database or an API in one region, put it near that system.
- Content for the whole world. A CDN (content delivery network) can serve images and files closer to every visitor, whatever location the server has.
Changing your mind
A server cannot simply be moved to another country. You build a new server in the new location and move your data. This is why it is worth thinking about the location before you order. If you are not sure, mail sales@it-labs.in with your use case, and we suggest a location.
