GST invoice: what to expect and how to correct it

Updated

Delhi Hosting is a brand of IT Labs India, and IT Labs India issues the GST invoice for every order. This guide explains what is on it and how to get it corrected.

18% GST

Our prices are shown without tax, as ”+ 18% GST”. GST is added on top at 18%. Your invoice shows the price, the GST amount and the total you pay. For example, if a service costs 1,000 rupees before tax, the GST is 180 rupees and the total is 1,180 rupees.

The name on the invoice

We write the invoice in the name you give us when you order. Give the name carefully:

  • Businesses: the exact legal name of the company, firm or proprietorship, as it appears on your GST registration.
  • Individuals: your own name.

Details on a tax invoice cannot simply be changed after it is made, so please check name, address and GSTIN in the order enquiry.

GSTIN for businesses

If your business is registered for GST, send your GSTIN (the 15-character GST identification number) with the order. We put it on the invoice, and you can claim input tax credit as the law allows. Ask your tax adviser about the rules in your case. Without a GSTIN, we make the invoice for a customer who is not GST registered.

Where the invoice comes from

IT Labs India sends the invoice by mail to the email address you gave with the order, with a link to pay. Keep it for your accounts. If you cannot find it, mail us and we send a copy.

How to ask for a corrected invoice

Mistakes happen: a wrong spelling, a missing GSTIN, an old address. To get it corrected:

  1. Mail support@it-labs.in from the email address used for the order.
  2. Write the invoice number, or the date and amount if you do not have it.
  3. Write exactly what is wrong and what it must say. For a GSTIN or a name, attach a copy of your GST registration certificate.

We check the request and issue a corrected invoice where the rules allow it. Where a tax invoice cannot simply be changed, we replace it in the way the GST rules require, for example with a credit note and a new invoice. Please ask as soon as you see the mistake.

Questions about tax

We can explain what is on our invoice. For advice on how to handle GST in your own accounts, please ask your chartered accountant.
