Customer verification (KYC): what we ask and why
Updated
Before we set up a server, we verify who the customer is. This is part of every order. This guide explains why we do it and what you need to have ready.
Why we verify
Our data-centre provider requires us to identify our customers. Verification also protects you: it keeps spammers, fraudsters and attackers away from the same network where your server runs. You can read the full policy on the customer verification page.
What we ask for
For every customer:
- Full name. For a business, the legal name of the business and the name of the person ordering.
- Address. A full postal address where you can be reached.
- Phone number. A number where we can call or message you.
- Email address. We send a code to this address, and you confirm it. This proves that the address is yours and that you can receive our mail about your server.
Plus one proof of identity:
- Businesses: PAN of the business, or the GSTIN if the business is registered for GST.
- Individuals: a government photo ID. Tell us which one you will send and we confirm if it is accepted.
Ask us if you are not sure which document fits your case.
How it works
- You send the order enquiry at /order/ with your details.
- We reply by mail, confirm the price and ask for the proof of identity.
- You enter the email code and send the document, by mail or in the way we describe in our reply.
- We check the details and match them with the name on your order and invoice.
- After payment and verification, we set up your server.
Verification starts when we receive your documents. Sending everything in the first mail is the quickest way.
Your data
Send documents only to the address we tell you in our reply, never through a link in a message from someone else. If you are worried that a mail is not really from us, write to support@it-labs.in.
If we cannot verify you
If the details do not match, or a document is not readable, we ask you to send it again. If we cannot verify the customer, we cannot set up the server.
